How to set it up

  1. Set the SundaysIt starts with eight Sundays at 10:00 am, two readers each. Change the time to your service, and take off any Sunday with a different format.
  2. Send the linkShare it with your readers. Nobody needs an account, and everyone is asked for an email so you can send the passages.
  3. Send the readingsThe week before, use “Tell people something” on your private link to send everyone their passages.
  4. Plan the next seasonWhen the eight weeks are up, start a new sheet from this template so the Sundays are dated from then.

What helps

  • Readers like a week to practise. Send the passages the Sunday before.
  • A short note on pronouncing difficult names, in the email, saves a nervous moment at the lectern.
  • If you have first and second readings, name them in the description, and ask readers to say in their note if they have a preference.
  • Pairing a confident reader with a new one on the same Sunday helps people try it.

Something to send with the link

Copy it into a text, an email or the group chat, change what you like, and paste your link at the end.

We're putting together the readers schedule for the next couple of months.

Questions people ask

Why does it ask for an email address?
So you can send readers their passages. This template turns on “Ask everyone for an email address”, and only you and anybody helping you run the page see the addresses.
Can a reader take more than one Sunday?
Yes, unless you turn on “One sign-up each”.
Can I send different passages to each reader?
“Tell people something” goes to everyone who signed up, so put each Sunday's passages in the one message, by date.
